Both counselling and psychotherapy are an opportunity to talk through issues that are causing you concern with a trained professional in a confidential setting. The process can help to increase self-awareness and self-confidence, enabling you to overcome difficulties and live your life in a more satisfying way.
Counselling addresses problems that have arisen more recently and can be quite focused and time-limited. Psychotherapy addresses more long-term or recurrent problems that may have roots in the past. In practice, however, they often overlap.
Both counselling and psychotherapy can help you to:
explore those parts of your life that are no longer satisfactory
have emotional support through a difficult period in your life
be heard without being judged or dismissed
gain a better understanding of yourself
My training and experience enables me to draw upon a range of approaches to explore the difficulties you may be facing and to identify an appropriate way to address them. The approaches that I commonly use include person-centred, psychodynamic and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). More details of these are provided in the panel on the right.
Finding a therapist that you feel you can trust and relate to is very important and for this reason I offer an initial session free of charge and without obligation. For more information or an informal chat, please contact me.
